MyReadingWeb/MyWrtitingWeb Initial Setup
I wanted to give you an update on launching MyReadingWeb and MyWritingWeb. The 2008-2009 student database for the district is close to being completed. When it is complete it will be sent to MetaMetrics. Approximately 5 days after MetaMetrics receives our information we will have access to both utilities. It is exciting so many of you are chomping at the bit to start using these tools. I will keep you posted.
Important information you need to know to ensure you can access MyWritingWeb and/or MyReadingWeb through each computer students will be using:
The first time you access MyWritingWeb or MyReadingWeb, you will need to download the latest version of Java. The first time you log on to either MyWritingWeb or MyReadingWeb, it will guide you through the process of downloading the latest version of Java. If you are not the admin of a specific computer then the download will not be allowed to be installed and MyWritingWeb and MyReadingWeb will not be able to be accessed from that computer.
If there is a computer you want students to use and you receive the message that you are unable to download Java because you are not the local admin please follow these directions:
Email Tina Genoff the name of the computer and the name of the person who needs to be the admin. Leave the computer turned on and ensure it is hooked up to the network with an Ethernet cord.
Also, librarians should be the admin on lab computers.
PLEASE NOTE—students DO NOT need to become admins of computers to use these utilities. It is only the initial download of latest version of Java that will require the admin to log on and therefore allow MyWritingWeb and MyReadingWeb to run on that specific computer in the future.
I’ll let you now as soon as we are up and running.
